Something Fresh

Not the German bakery.

with 14 comments

Not the place where people of all races, colors, languages and cultures went to. Not the place where everyone from Pune has been to, sometime or the other. Not the only place where you can get a really early morning breakfast after a night-out. Not the place where you got the best banana muffins ever. Not the place where a couple poor guys used to sell awesome bouquets made of wild flowers and forest leaves they randomly picked up while wandering about. Not the place that exemplifies everything North Main Road stands for. Not the place that peace in Pune stood for. No no no, not the German bakery.

  2. I never would have expected something to happen in Pune.

I don’t know, if it is okay to post this, but I thought of passing the message, since I noticed it up on twitter.

  3. Oh, I didn’t expect it either, but it’s just wishful thinking. Pune’s too much of a viable target to be spared. None of the security of Bombay, yet you find so many people from all over the country flocking here for education or jobs. And the foreigners all come to Osho Ashram.

Why wouldn’t it be okay to post that? Thanks for letting me know, but as far as I know, they don’t need blood any more. Anyway, I make it a point to donate blood once a year, when they come to college for a donation drive.

  4. Yeah. Hopefully they will increase the security now? Still shocking that it became a target.

    Thanks! Sounds good!

  5. The police force was busy protecting movie theaters screening My Name is Khan from Shiv Sena goons.

I really wonder if a security increase will prevent this. I mean, we have to get lucky every single time, while they only need to get lucky once.

  6. It had to happen once.. Pune was their hot target.. When the stupid jihaadis want an international attack, I guess Pune was best for them. Its sad tho..

  7. The whole SS situation was just plain idiotic. I highly doubt there is any place in the world where the police force has to protect movie theaters, yet in India it happens.

True. Do you think there is less awareness of the situation?

  8. @ Sarita:
Not really. I don’t think Pune is a target for an international scare. It only caused a flutter in India. Whatever it is though, yeah it’s sad.

    @ Mia:
Awareness on whose part? If you mean the government, oh no, they’re very well aware. But our army also kills innocent people in the North-East and PoK. It works both ways. We’re not angels. I think that both the Indian and Pakistan governments are SO corrupt that a solution hardly seems on the cards.

If you mean the people, we’re definitely aware of the situation. But there’s pretty much nothing we can do about it, no?

  9. On that point I would completely agree! They will NEVER come on solution ever. I read up on their history, and it just left me with a headache. Though I loved how both countries were so keen on Nuclear deals. Btw have you read on the Pakistan political system from the start? About 4-5 years back I read up on their history, and I was shocked with the way things were. I don’t know, if this is the Indian in me that says this (I would hate to think that way) but their politics is a million times WORSE than ours! To clarify I don’t hate Pakistan or anything I have friends from Pakistan. My Dad read the books I got as well, and we were pretty surprised I mean till date almost every person in power has been assassinated for someone else to rise in power at least in India it hasn’t been that bad. I don’t remember the exact details, but their politics is just BAD. Not that ours is any great either.

Yeah, I was actually referring to people.

  10. No, I haven’t read in depth about their political system, but in India, you end up finding out stuff from the daily news. Well, yeah, they have BIG issues, probably much worse than India. I think their army is too powerful in the government, which always screws things up. In that sense, we’re much better. But you know, I don’t think this attack comes from a pro terrorist organization based in Pakistan. Because, let’s face it: what kind of a soft target is the German bakery? It could be more of an inside job than anything else.

“Though I loved how both countries were so keen on Nuclear deals.” Meaning? I actually hated how India was keen on the nuclear deal.

  11. That’s exactly what my parents said! That it was more of an inside job!

Well, in the words of someone I know “if each country had their way then the easiest option would be dropping a nuclear bomb and…”. I was referring in that sense that they are so threatened by each other that each decided to pull up their own defenses. In terms of the deal, then it is a foolish mistake on part of both countries I mean they spend a ridiculous amount of money on it. I’m sure both countries could use that same money a lot more wisely. Politics is a lot complicated, but I wish each country told each other to mind their own business and moved on already, which will never happen.

  12. Haha, what a coincidence!

It’s so complicated that I wish there WERE no countries, and every one minded their own business for themselves. How nice would that be?
